Realizing the need for more local control, the Hesperia Fire Protection District reorganized on February 27, 1961 at which time a Board of Directors was elected. In 1975, the Emergency Medical Service program/Paramedic Ambulance service was developed. In 1988, the City of Hesperia was incorporated, and the Fire District became a subsidiary district of the City. In 2004 the City contracted with the County of San Bernardino for fire protection services. The City Council serves as the Hesperia Fire Protection District Board of Directors.
